This project promotes the adoption of an energy-efficient, environmentally friendly wood stove in hilly areas of Pakistan to reduce deforestation, carbon emissions and indoor air pollution.
Progress
- Meeting with local community leaders and families to understand cooking practices
- 20 families attended seminar and received an energy efficient stove
- Community awareness seminars for 180 people on clean cooking practices
- Local women supported as community ambassadors to spread awareness
Highlights
- Some of actions that are making the project a success include:
- Practical demonstration. Seeing reduced smoke in real time changes mindsets quickly.
- Women-led awareness works best. When women are in leadership roles, families are more willing to adopt clean cooking practices.
- Affordability. Removing the cost barrier led to immediate adoption and interest from additional households.
“Before this stove, our kitchen was full of smoke. Now we can cook, heat water, and warm the room—all at once. We use much less wood, and the air feels cleaner.” (Beneficiary Family, Palandri)
