Technical and vocational education and training (TVET) plays a crucial role in supporting economic transition towards net zero, equipping workers with the skills they need to work with new materials and systems. TVET has a transformative effect in empowering economically threatened and socially marginalised communities to access emerging green sectors and jobs.
Through the Going Global Partnerships programme, which supports mutually beneficial higher education and TVET collaborations between the UK and other countries, the British Council has made an important contribution to the development of global TVET capacity to meet the challenges of climate change. This report describes how interventions conducted through the Going Global Partnerships programme have created international stakeholder networks, developed TVET sector capacity, commitment and expertise in delivering skills needed for a greener future in 13 partner countries in Africa and South Asia.
The British Council’s interventions promoting green TVET system reform and capacity building have been implemented through three interlinked areas:
- Sharing of knowledge and good practice,
- System reform, and
- Institutional capacity building
