Where can I go as an English Language Assistant?

Language requirement: A2 in the country’s main language. Please note however that Assistants will be expected to be able to communicate and complete the necessary administration procedures in German. 

Placement length: eight months 

Approximate salary: €1,487 net per month

Start and end dates: full-year placements run from 1 October 2024 to 31 May 2025. 

Hours per week: 13 hours 

Type of institution: posts in Austria are available in secondary and vocational schools (you may work at one or two schools).

Approximate salary: £1,800 – £2,000 GBP per month

Start date and end date: late August 2024 – end of June 2025. 

Hours per week: 40 (Full-time, Monday – Friday)

Type of institution: Various - you can generally expect to work in a vocational education institution with students aged 15 to 24.

Type of institution: posts in Switzerland are in secondary schools, with a very small number of postings in primary schools (you may work in up to three schools).

Argentina

Placement length: 6 months

Approximate salary: please note that Argentina experiences high levels of inflation (approximately 40%) so the monthly allowance changes considerably each year. As a result, the monthly allowance will be confirmed nearer the time of appointment.

Start date and end date:  

• Application year 2022-23: 1 April 2024 to 31 August 2024 
• Application year 2023-24: beginning of April 2025 to the end of August 2025 

Hours per week:18 hours per week. This is divided into 15 weekly hours of class time, and  3 hours preparation time.

Type of institution: Posts are in universities or teacher training colleges where the students are training to become English teachers.
