The British Council’s research Global Skills Partnerships: Exploring Transnational Education in TVET conducted by Edge Foundation in partnership with the Association of Colleges explores the role of transnational education (TNE) in technical and vocational education and training (TVET). While TNE is well established in higher education, its application in the further education and skills sector is less developed but holds enormous potential.
This study provides timely insights into models, opportunities and challenges, offering evidence-based recommendations for policymakers, institutions and partners. Drawing on international case studies, sector analysis and interviews, the research highlights how TNE can expand access to high-quality skills training, strengthen UK and global TVET systems, and create new employment pathways. The findings contribute to a refreshed understanding of the UK’s international education offer and underline the importance of collaboration, contextualisation and mutual learning in shaping the future of skills worldwide.
This research is part of the British Council Going Global Partnerships programme, which supports universities, colleges and wider education stakeholders around the world to work together towards stronger, equitable, inclusive, more internationally connected higher education, science and TVET.
