Introduction

Our code of conduct has been designed to demonstrate best practice for how to participate in an online event as part of Youth Connect Live. This sets out expected behaviours so the event is an enjoyable and welcoming space for everyone. Please remember that Youth Connect Live aims to welcome people with from a wide range of different countries, cultures and backgrounds.

By participating in the event you agree to the following:

Use an appropriate profile name - you must not pretend to be someone else or try to register a profile name which could be considered offensive or defamatory.

Arrival – Participants are expected to join events promptly at the start of sessions. Late arrivals may not be admitted to the event.

Questions to the panel –To avoid unnecessary interruptions and to maintain the momentum of sessions we will use the Q&A function on Cvent. A moderator will select the questions that are put to the panel.  

Please use the chat feature and the Q&A to ask the presenter questions and that are related to the theme or topic of the webinar only. If participant responses to questions are permitted, you should only make comments that are relevant to the question being asked.

Confidentiality – Please do not show images or recordings of individuals or give out personal information unless express permission has been sought and granted in advance by the individual in question.

Communication with others

As the UK’s primary organisation for cultural relations and educational opportunities worldwide, part of the richness of our sessions will be due to the diversity of speakers and guests that attend. Participants should be aware that they will be speaking to people from diverse backgrounds and cultures and should act in accordance with this:

  • Keep conversation relevant and on-topic
  • Use plain English at all times
  • Be respectful and considerate, be prepared to listen to others and try not to interrupt
  • Be inclusive

Promoting positive behaviour 

Participants are expected to respect others and to:

  • Treat all participants with respect
  • Create a positive learning environment 
  • Listen to all the participants and be aware of their needs
  • Praise and encourage positive behaviour  

Unacceptable behaviour 

The British Council has a zero-tolerance stance regarding bullying.

  1. Do not share any personal information in the general chat that may result in other participants contacting you. This includes addresses, phone numbers and email addresses.
  2. Do not share links to your website or any websites that you are promoting for the purposes of making money. Comments that include links to paid-for websites for the purpose of promotion will be deleted and you may be removed from the webinar.
  3. Please use the chat feature and the Q&A to ask the presenter questions and that are related to the theme or topic of the webinar only. If participant responses to questions are permitted, you should only make comments that are relevant to the question being asked.

The following behaviours are considered unacceptable during a Youth Connect Live event: 

  • Use of or threat of violence
  • Bullying
  • Discrimination
  • Use of swear words in any language
  • Sending impolite messages
  • Making political comments

Reporting a concern – If participants have any safeguarding concerns during the event, they can e-mail youthconnect@britishcouncil.org.

Removal from session – Participants who repeatedly display unacceptable behaviour will be removed from the session and will not be allowed to return.
