Premier League and British Council partnership

In 2007, the British Council and the Premier League joined forces to create positive change in schools and communities around the world and strengthen connections between the UK and other countries.

Since its inception, the partnership has worked together to develop the skills of more than 41,000 football coaches, referees, and educators, working with more than 2.3 million children and young people in 29* countries.

Working in collaboration with local organisations in each country, the programmes have been tailored to address key social issues specific to a country or region, such as violence against women and girls, female participation in sport and educational opportunities for disadvantaged young people. The programmes focus on developing skills, promoting inclusion, and creating positive, lasting impact through sport and learning.

The global legacy of the partnership is a worldwide network of individuals and organisations, empowered to bring about positive social change through inclusive training programmes that benefit local communities.

Premier Skills has worked in 29* countries: Afghanistan, Botswana, Brazil, Cameroon, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Korea, Malaysia, Malawi, Mexico, Morocco, Myanmar, Nigeria, Qatar, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Singapore, South Africa, Sudan, Tunisia, Uganda, USA, Vietnam and Zambia.

*This includes Hong Kong, a special administrative region of China
