The UK’s National Inclusion Week in September provided an opportunity to celebrate inclusion and reflect on the everyday practices that can make a difference in education, workplaces, and communities.

Through the British Council’s Going Global Partnerships Programme – TVET International Skills Partnerships, open conversations around advancing equity and diversity are helping partners develop more inclusive approaches and turning shared learning into positive outcomes.

Four partnerships are currently connecting UK further education providers with South African technical colleges, with a shared focus on green hydrogen technologies and skills. Together, they are strengthening TVET systems while building the workforce capability needed for emerging industry sectors.

Inclusion is being brought to life through these partnerships.

At a recent Women in Hydrogen Conference, delivered through the partnership between Hydrogen Safe, a specialist independent training provider, and Nakangala Technical College, international technical experts, lecturers and students came together to share their knowledge, experiences, and practices – while inspiring innovation and opportunity.

A highlight was a presentation by South African female technical instrumentation student, Nonhlanhla Makwakwa, demonstrating the importance of creating opportunities for women to have a voice in shaping emerging industry sectors. We are preparing learners for the world of work, and the work of the world. Watch the video above to hear her perspective.

Inclusive partnerships don’t just share knowledge – they create opportunity, build confidence, and help shape the skills and workforce of tomorrow.
