Alex Mackenzie

Inspector since 2019. BA, DELTA, TQFE. Began teaching in Poland in 1999; managed schools, Erasmus projects, and worked across FE/HE. Founded Mackenzie School (Edinburgh) and ran Atlantic (Galway). Now a freelance consultant.

Annabelle O’Toole

She holds an MA in Education, Leadership and Management and the DTEFLA. Her experience includes EFL teaching, teacher training and management with International House, the British Council and the Bell Educational Trust, where she served as Deputy Academic Manager and Head of Bell Young Learners. She has also worked as a Cambridge ESOL examiner and TKT item writer.

Barbara Tully

Inspector since 2007. She holds an MA in TESOL, a PGDip in Higher Education, the DTEFLA and is a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Her previous roles include Associate Dean for Global Education at Coventry University, Head of Department, lecturer, teacher trainer, International House teacher, language consultant and ESP materials author. She currently works as a freelance consultant.

Diane Phillips

Inspector since 2000. She holds an MA in Geography and a PGCE from Cambridge University, an MA and PhD in Applied Linguistics from the University of London, a postgraduate certificate in child psychology from Stanford University, and the DTEFLA. She worked at the Bell Educational Trust as a teacher, trainer & manager, including Head of Academic Management and Head of Young Learners & as a CTEFLA/DTEFLA trainer and assessor. Currently tutors on the Open University MA in Applied Linguistics.

Elaine Smith

Inspector since 2011. She holds a BA in English Language and Literature, a Master’s in TEFL and a postgraduate diploma in Coaching and Development. Her previous roles include EFL teacher in Greece and Bulgaria, teacher and trainer at IH London, Director of IH World, and Deputy Director of the Language Centre at the University of the Arts London. She currently works as a freelance coach and consultant & Lead Panel Assessor for CDMT.

Elizabeth Granato

Inspector since 2007. BA Social Policy, PGCE, DTEFLA, AM/Coaching certs. Tutor on EUK Student Services course, now delivers Advanced Safeguarding training.

George Pickering

Inspector since 1999. BA, BSc, PGCE, MA, diplomas in counselling/coaching/management. Ex-teacher, trainer, director, IH & Bell senior roles. Academic Director EUK DELTM. Freelance consultant in 65+ countries, IATEFL director.

Glen Mitchell

Inspector since 2019. He holds a BA, the DTEFLA and the DELTM. His previous roles include managing EAP programmes, serving as Director of Studies at Central School of English in London, and ten years as Principal of OISE London. He is currently an inspector for IALC and a course tutor on the English UK Certificate in ELT Student Experience Management.

Janey Futerill

Inspector since 2024. BA American Studies, MA English Lit, PGCE, CELTA, DTEFLA. 35+ years’ EFL teaching/management. Principal of Regent London (2010–22). Previous BC Venezuela, IH Egypt/Spain, and London roles.

Jonathan Seath

Inspector since 2007, he holds a BA, BSc, an MA in German literature, an MA in Applied Linguistics, an MBA and a PGCE in Language Teaching. His experience includes teaching and teacher training in the UK, EFL teaching in Germany, serving as Principal of an accredited school, and co-authoring TEFL publications. He is currently an examiner of spoken English for Trinity College London.
