In Egypt, only ten per cent of female academics are in leading positions. As well as facing institutional constraints, many junior academics experience low self-esteem due to a lack of strong female role models.

With funding from Gender Equality Partnerships, through the Going Global Partnerships programme, Coventry University and Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport in Egypt set out to strengthen female leadership in Egyptian higher education by supporting female academics along their leadership journey.

Through training and mentorship, the partnership helped participants gain professional recognition as female leaders and helped to strengthen their networks. The partnership is now continuing to expand this through wider networking activities to bring about policy reform.
