The Going Global Partnerships Awards recognise impactful, unique and inspirational projects funded through the Going Global Partnerships programme.

Going Global Partnerships Awards 2025

The inaugural edition of the Going Global Partnerships Awards took place on 28 October 2025, as part of the Going Global conference in London.

Presented by Kate Ewart-Biggs, Deputy Chief Executive of the British Council, and Maddalaine Ansell, Global Director Education at the British Council, the awards recognised five outstanding projects on the night.

Each of the winning partnerships demonstrated a significant impact on education and contribution to sustainable development.

Since 2021, Going Global Parentships has supported over 900 higher and further education institutional partnerships between the UK and more than 60 countries around the world.

About the project

U-COHUB (UNIVERSITY CO-CREATION HUB)

This partnership has helped to transform innovation and entrepreneurship education in Nigeria through a new co-creation model, giving students the knowledge and skills to become job creators. Through the project, more than 1,300 medical science students got access to training and mentorship to nurture their entrepreneurial mindset and support their business ideas to become reality.  Now being expanded across the Innovation for African Universities Network, the University Co-creation Hub (U-COHUB) approach is providing a sustainable model for students to embrace innovation and create opportunities.

About the project

PIE (Partnership in Equality) for UK-Pakistan Women in Robotics & AI 

This partnership has empowered female students in Pakistan to gain critical STEM skills and enhance their employability through new robotics and AI opportunities. Working across nine Pakistani higher education institutions, including women-only institutions in underdeveloped areas, the partnership delivered training to over 300 female students and staff, many of whom were previously excluded from STEM opportunities. The project continues to inspire women and girls through a new women-led robotics lab and international mentorship network.

Zemo Egypt (Zero-carbon mobility Egypt) Enhancement of green vehicles technology skills towards zero emissions

This partnership has transformed hybrid vehicle technology education and engaged learners in climate action initiatives to help drive Egypt’s zero emissions goals. As well as enhancing Helwan University’s hybrid vehicle technology curriculum, the partnership established a female co-led Formula Student team, whose concept electric car has competed on the international stage and was showcased at COP 27. The partnership continues to inspire green energy concepts and climate action initiatives, giving students a platform to shape the future of transportation and clean energy.

About the project

Multifunctional nanocomposites in waste-water treatment

This partnership has the potential to transform access to clean water globally by developing an innovative solution for removing toxic pollutants from water sources. The result of collaborative UK-China research, this scalable, one-step solution uses tiny magnetic nanoparticles (a billionth of a metre scale) to capture highly toxic chemicals from water. With proven results based on real-world testing in the UK and China, the technology has the potential to be truly life-changing for communities around the globe by increasing access to safe drinking water.

About the project

International Skills Partnership Nepal/ UK – Green Skills Advisory Panel – Public/ Private Partnerships to improve TVET

This partnership is helping to address green skills gaps in Nepal by embedding a systemic approach to stronger public-private partnerships. Bringing together a diverse range of public and private sector stakeholders, the partnership has established Nepal’s first ever Green Skills Advisory Board, endorsed by the Ministry of Education Science and Technology. This platform is now ready to transform green skills training across Nepal by driving more relevant, sustainable education and supporting inclusive pathways into employment.

As well as the five winning projects, the Going Global Parnterships Awards would like to recognise the following highly commended projects.

  • Middlesex University in the UK and Van Lang University in Viet Nam for developing an innovative model for sustainable food production within urban environments through advanced IoT-enabled vertical farming systems and cloud-based AI solutions.
  • University of the West of England in the UK and Universidad Politecnica de Ramos Arizpe in Mexico for addressing the persistent underrepresentation of women in STEM fields in Mexico.
  • University of Edinburgh in the UK and Universitas Islam Internasional Indonesia for developing a dual degree focusing on Islam and the globalised world, to promote cross-cultural fluency and global citizenship.
