We invite you to be a part of the British Council’s Alumni UK Network. As a member of the Alumni UK Network we seek to provide you with opportunities for career advancement, global networking and access to a range of exclusive events and resources. The British Council’s Alumni UK Network is free to join, it brings people together from around the world who have a shared experience of a UK education or British Council learning and development experience.

Data collection and Legal justification

The British Council will use the information that you provide for the purpose of administering your registration and membership of the British Council’s Alumni UK Network. By completing your registration with us, this means you have consented to sharing your information. We will keep your personal information for the duration of your membership in the British Council’s Alumni UK Network.

  • By joining the British Council’s Alumni UK Network, you agree to be signed up to the British Council’s Alumni UK Network mailing list.
  • We may send you materials such as questionnaires or surveys about your experience with the British Council and we may use your information for our research and service improvement.
  • Collection of information about your gender identity, special medical needs, disabilities or accessibility requirements is optional, and the British Council does it to ensure the programme is adjusted to your needs, in line with the British Council’s global Policy and Standards on Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.
  • You also have the right to unsubscribe from any such communication by clicking the link provided within each email.

Disclosures of your personal information

For the purposes of delivering alumni services, British Council will share your personal information with the following service providers, operating as Processors following our instructions as set out contractually.

  • HubSpot (US-based) is used as our customer management database and for our electronic communications. HubSpot is certified under UK/US and EU/US privacy agreements that allow free flows of data from the UK and the EU to the United States.
  • Zoom (US-based) is the video and audio conferencing tool we use for online events. Zoom incorporate appropriate contractual safeguards in their Terms and Conditions to protect flows of data from the UK/EU into the United States

We also share your data with relevant partner organisations such as UK Universities, UK government departments, embassies and consulates.

Withdrawal of consent

You have the right to withdraw your consent from the British Council’s Alumni UK Network at any time. If you want to delete your account, click on your profile image then select 'Profile' from the menu. On this page there is a "Delete account" button, which will complete the action.

Your data protection rights

The British Council complies with data protection law in the UK and laws in other countries that meet internationally accepted standards. You have the right to ask for a copy of the information we hold on you, and the right to ask us to correct any inaccuracies in that information. If you have concerns about how we have used your personal information, you also have the right to complain to a privacy regulator.
