Code of Conduct

We have established the following code of conduct regarding the behaviour of all Alumni UK members joining the Alumni UK Network activities.

To understand more about the British Council, we suggest that alumni to read our information on the following:

Expectations of engagement and behaviour

We ask that all alumni users should remain respectful when engaging with other members of the Alumni UK Network.

Equality, diversity and inclusion (respect for others)

Equality, diversity and inclusion are integral to the British Council’s cultural relations work. This means we commit to ensuring that there is no discrimination on the basis of any of the following: age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex and sexual orientation.

Safeguarding (and email to contact)

The British Council defines a child as anyone below the age of 18 and an adult as anyone aged 18 and over. We have a duty of care to protect children and adults who participate in British Council activities from exploitation, abuse and harm by creating a safe and secure environment for everyone. British Council staff are expected to undertake an annual mandatory online safeguarding course to ensure they are aware of their duty of care towards children and adults and the requirements of our safeguarding policy.

The British Council maintains a zero-tolerance approach towards reporting of safeguarding incidents, therefore all participants in our activities should be informed of the safeguarding policy and how to safely report an incident, concern, or allegation to the British Council.

If there is any safeguarding issues, please contact alumniuk.team@britishcouncil.org immediately.

The team will share the details with the British Council Safeguarding team, who will investigate the incident as per our safeguarding policy and may get back to you for more details.

Harassment

Harassment is defined as unwelcome conduct or comments, either directly against an individual in the workplace or in online platform or made in a general manner that contributes to an environment that is hostile or lacking respect or dignity.

Our response times

The British Council will get back to any questions and queries as soon as possible.
