This is a unique opportunity to bring creativity, and ocean literacy into your classroom while connecting with international educators and inspiring your students to become confident, climate-literate changemakers.

The British Council and the University of Exeter are inviting teachers from UK schools to take part in a six-week international programme designed for Year 5 and Year 6 pupils. The Schools Across the Ocean programme pairs UK classes with partner classes in Brazil, giving students aged 9-11 the chance to explore climate and ocean literacy through storytelling, art, poetry, and film.

Key Dates:

  • Deadline for applications 13th November 2025
  • Teacher training online: November 2025 to February 2026
  • Programme for pupils: 23rd February to 2nd April 2026

Teachers who sign up will receive full training in the Schools Across the Ocean methodology and access to a comprehensive toolkit containing all planning materials and resources. Participating classes should commit to a minimum of two hours per week engaging with programme activities during the six weeks of the programme.

Each school will be paired with a climate or ocean scientist, and will have access to 3 live online workshops led by the Schools Across the Ocean team at the University of Exeter.
