Next Generation Turkey captures the voice, aspirations and attitudes of young people in Turkey at this crucial time, and is part of the British Council’s Next Generation series.
The report looks into three important areas for young people – their daily lives and connections, how they are envisaging and investing in their future, and their attitudes to identity, politics and participation.
Turkey is experiencing a period of profound social, political and economic change, and this young population – like their peers around the world – face a challenging and unpredictable future for which they must plan today.Half of the population in Turkey is under the age of 30. According to the World Happiness Report, Turkey ranks in the top half of countries surveyed, standing at 69th out of 155 countries. However, we can also see a generation sceptical about their ability to influence policy and reluctant to engage in politics, concerned about education and the lack of support for individual growth.
About Next Generation
Next Generation is a series of global British Council research focusing on the attitudes and aspirations of young people, and the policies and conditions that support them in becoming creative, fulfilled and active citizens.
The research projects examine young people’s views around education, employment and lifestyle, as well as uncovering their hopes and fears for their country, their degree of international engagement and views on the wider world, and the values and beliefs that affect their lives.
In countries where we have conducted multiple Next Generation reports, the first acts as a benchmark, with later research taking a deep dive into a given area, such as democratic engagement or experience of conflict.
