Image for English Impact Report - Sri Lanka

With the support of the Ministry of Education of Sri Lanka, the British Council evaluated the English language reading, writing, listening and speaking skills of nearly 1,500 15-year-old students attending 148 schools during 2017.

The results of these assessments are presented alongside information about language learning background and motivations for learning English, plus the relationship between these factors and current English language proficiency.

Stratification variables ensured a representative sample of students across the administrative provinces within the country, across urban and rural areas, as well as those attending schools with different mediums of instruction (from mono-lingual Sinhala or Tamil, to bilingual and trilingual educational environments).
