With the support of Madrid’s Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport, the British Council evaluated the English language reading, writing, listening and speaking skills of over 1,750 15-year-old students attending 170 schools during a two month period in 2017. The results of these assessments are presented alongside information about language learning background and motivations for learning English, plus the relationship between these and achievement.
One of the central research aims of English Impact Madrid was to understand the comparative capability across students participating in the Bilingual programme and those in schools not participating in this regional initiative. To this end, an active oversampling of Bilingual schools allowed for statistically rigorous comparisons to be drawn between these different schooling approaches.
