The Curriculum Comparison Project forms a key part of the British Council’s Future of English research agenda. It was initiated in response to recent reforms in English language curricula across three East Asian countries—China, Korea, and Japan—with a focus on comparing changes in primary and secondary education. Although the study centres on these specific contexts, its methodology and findings are designed to offer insights that are globally relevant and adaptable to diverse educational settings. The project aims to uncover regional patterns and establish a global framework for curriculum analysis.
- Framework application: The research uses the Comprehensive Learning System (O’Sullivan, 2020), expanded to include monitoring and evaluation alongside curriculum, delivery, and assessment.
- Collaborative methodology: The study is conducted by expert researchers and British Council teams across East Asia and globally.
