What is Future Leaders Connect?

Launched in 2017, Future Leaders Connect is a pioneering policy and leadership programme for exceptional individuals from around the world, who are aged between 18-35. We are building a global network of emerging policy leaders connected over the long term to realise substantial change on today’s global challenges. With 150 members so far and tens of thousands of people involved in our online community, Future Leaders Connect is bringing people together to lead change through policymaking. 80% of Future Leaders Connect members said the programme ‘exceeded their expectations’. More about the programme

As a member of Future Leaders Connect you will travel to the UK for ten days for an advanced policy and leadership development programme at Møller Institute, Churchill College, University of Cambridge. You will discuss today’s biggest challenges at the UK Houses of Parliament, meet inspirational leaders and visit world-renowned organisations. Following your time in the UK, you will have worldwide connections, a policy action plan for change and the skills, knowledge and networks needed to be an influential leader in your country and beyond. 

You must be aged 18-35 to apply, have policy knowledge and a policy idea for change, the potential to be a senior leader and be living in one of our participating countries. Our current participating countries are, Canada, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Mexico, Morocco, Nigeria, Pakistan, Poland, Tunisia, UK and USA. Through the application process we identify exceptional leaders from around the world who we anticipate will play a significant role in policymaking and politics in the years to come.

Future Leaders Connect member

The long-term network 

Being a Future Leaders Connect member is for the long term, together you will spend ten days in Cambridge and London UK, before and after this time you will be connected to the British Council in your home country and asked to participate in local, national and international opportunities over the following months and years as part of your ongoing professional development as a policy leader. You will also be connected to all Future Leaders Connect members around the world and have access to an impressive network of leaders who are leading change. 90% of Future Leaders Connect members continue to be in regular contact with the network, accessing the exclusive ongoing opportunities and working together. 

The programme is fully accessible, and the costs of travel, accommodation and meals are covered by the British Council.

What do we mean by policy?

Policy - a set of ideas, plan, course or principle of action which is officially agreed to by a body or an individual.

What do we mean by policymaking?

Policymaking - discussion, debate and influence that leads to the establishment of a policy.
