Kavita Puri is a multi award-winning journalist, executive producer, broadcaster and author.
She has worked at the BBC in senior editorial positions on its flagship current affairs programmes, covering politics, investigations and foreign affairs. Documentaries she has commissioned and overseen have won awards including the Royal Television Society and Foreign Press Awards.
Kavita has also created, written and presented landmark programmes on BBC Radio 4 with a wider public legacy. Her recent podcast Three Million won numerous prizes including Best New Podcast at the British Podcast Awards, and Best Radio Programme at the Broadcast Press Guild Awards. It is the subject of a book in 2027.
Radio 4’s Partition Voices won the Royal Historical Society’s Public History Prize and Best Radio Programme. The testimonies are all archived at the British Library. The critically-acclaimed book Partition Voices: Untold British Stories was based on the series, and was adapted at the Donmar Warehouse, and toured Britain.
Her series Three Pounds in My Pocket for BBC Radio 4 is on its fifth series and charts the social history of post-war British South Asians. She regularly writes, speaks and lectures around the world on her work.
For eight years Kavita was Trustee of the Victoria & Albert Museum where she oversaw the successful launch of the Storehouse and V&A East Museum. She has been on the judging panel for journalism and film juries, and was recently the Chair of the Non-Fiction Women’s Prize. She is a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society and an associate of the Imperial War Museum.
