In 2021, the New Narratives team put a call out for young artists from countries of Africa and the UK to submit project proposals that creatively interpret the New Narratives research as a way to disseminate the research and bridge the consumption gap amongst young people.
Khotso Sibanda was one of the 12 selected artists commissioned to interpret the 158-page New Narratives report. With her grant, she produced Sawubona From the Other Side, a short film that follows the life of an interracial couple, one from Wales and the other from the UK.
Sawubona From the Other Side attempts to explore British-Zimbabwean relations, misconceptions, and prejudices through the lens of romantic love between the Zimbabwean and British characters of a fictional play titled 'Dumelang from the Other Side'; as well as real-life examples of couples in a documentary titled 'Kaleidoscope'.
