Title

Local impact of transnational education: a pilot study in selected European countries

Date

April 2021

Synopsis

This pilot was commissioned by the British Council to explore the impact of TNE on local communities.

The study explores the impacts of UK transnational education (TNE) programmes on the delivery process and the partner institutions and students involved. It aims to understand the extent to which local impact is considered by both sending and host institutions when establishing partnerships.

The study focuses on Cyprus, Germany, Greece, Italy, Poland, Romania, Bulgaria, Spain, France, Malta, Portugal and Lithuania.

The study offers recommendations for government policy makers and HEIs based on its findings, including the importance of measuring and understanding the (often very positive) local impact of UK TNE programmes beyond financial gain, and of communicating this impact effectively.
