We often speak of a ‘globally connected’ world, with many of us owning multiple computers, laptops, smartphones and other web-enabled devices.
But, it’s important to remember that only 50 per cent of the world has access to the internet. And even when people do have access, it’s not always the same for everyone, everywhere. Free and open access to the web can be restricted by governments or corporations, while an individual’s experience online is often very different depending on their gender, race or ability.
As part of the season, we want to advocate for an open, accessible web that is truly the same for anyone, anywhere.
