International exchange programmes through mobility of students, researchers and skilled workers contribute extensively to academic and scientific progress and open the door for international collaborations, economic growth, and cultural exchange.

Mutual Recognition of Qualification (MRQ) are established to enable the mobilization and internationalisation strategies between the countries and allow for formal qualification recognition processes.

The British Council commissioned this research study to understand what MRQs are,  why countries seek to develop them and how are they developed. In addition, it also highlights different types of MRQAs, the different kinds of organisations involved in implementing them and varied stages, processes and timeframes involved.

The research has been targeted to two set of countries: those which have successfully signed an MRQ with the UK and other countries without a formal agreement. Surveys conducted in these countries showcase stakeholder understanding and interest in MRQ development and implementation within the context of their country. The research also includes recommendations for implementing and establishing an MRQ.
