Join us for an interactive workshop with Kateryna Mikhalitsyna, a prominent Ukrainian children's author, poet, translator and editor.

Part of International Education Week 2026, this workshop is designed for primary and lower secondary pupils aged 7–14. Through stories, illustrations and creative activities, Kateryna will introduce pupils to the world of picture books and explore how books can help us understand ourselves, others and the world around us.

Drawing on her experience as a children's author, Kateryna will:

  • share why reading and storytelling continue to matter in today's world
  • explain what makes picture books unique and how to read and enjoy them
  • introduce some of her favourite picture books and present her latest picture book, Summertime on the Island
  • invite pupils to take part in a creative hands-on activity inspired by the themes of the workshop.

Pupils will also have the opportunity to ask Kateryna questions.

About the speaker

Kateryna Mikhalitsyna is a Ukrainian poet and writer. She is one of Ukraine's leading contemporary children's authors and the creator of beloved picture books including Who Grows in the Park?, Who Grows in the Garden?, Who Grows in the Forest? and Tomo and His Whale. She is also the author of “Flowers near the fourth” and co-author of “Reactors don’t explode” – books designed to tell the story of the Chornobyl disaster to young audience. Her books have received international recognition, with two titles selected for the prestigious White Ravens catalogue.
