Aptis is based on what has become the most influential test validation theory in modern assessment – the socio-cognitive framework. This theory focuses on how three elements (the test taker, the test system and the scoring system) combine to give a measure of a candidate’s performance which relates meaningfully to their ability in English.

The Assessment Advisory Board Meeting is an annual meeting which takes place between the Assessment Research Group of the English and Exams Department of the British Council, and the Assessment Advisory Board (AAB) which includes five external board members from various academic institutions worldwide.
