Apply for: Next Generation What We Know About Media and Information – Western Balkans

What is the opportunity?

The British Council’s Research and Insight Team is inviting proposals from qualified suppliers to conduct research and stakeholder engagement on youth (ages 18–30) perceptions of media trust, as well as approaches to addressing misinformation and disinformation in the Western Balkans.

Objectives

Next Generation is a research programme that gathers data to explore the needs, potential and aspirations of young people globally aged between 16 and 35. Under this series, the British Council as also published a number of global comparative analyses, exploring ‘what we know’ about youth perceptions across the world.

This research is being commissioned as a part of a partnership between the British Council and the Thomson Foundation, building on a long-standing collaboration in supporting independent media across the Western Balkans.

This research will complement the work that the British Council has done or is doing in the youth and media space, including supporting independent, fact-checked media, tackling dis- and misinformation, providing positive pathways for young people, and enhancing social cohesion including across ethnic division.

This research will also complement the focus of the UK Government as Berlin Process Summit hosts and provide insights that will inform better policy making in the youth and media space in the Western Balkans beyond this Summit year.

Outputs and deadline

The outputs that we envision include:

  • A full research report: including an executive summary, bibliography/references and recommendations.
  • A briefing paper:  highlighting key findings, articulating common themes and potential approaches and making recommendations for policy makers, funders, and practitioners, including the British Council and the Thomson Foundation.
  • Infographics: 6-10 infographics of the key findings which can be used on various platforms including social media for dissemination of key research findings, designed in line with British Council guidelines.
  • A slide deck:  Designed within British Council branding, highlighting key findings and using the infographics.
