What does it mean to live in more than one language? To speak in many tongues, or none at all? In this spellbinding storytelling session, award-winning performer Giles Abbott explores the joy, humour, and complexity of language through a handpicked selection of tales—from the profound to the delightfully absurd.

Partially blind since 1998, Giles turned to oral storytelling as a way to reconnect with the magic of narrative. His performances, known for their warmth, wit, and “a voice like melted chocolate,” have earned praise around the world.

Join the free session and celebrate multilingualism with us this month at the British Council. This event reflects our commitment to Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion, celebrating not only linguistic variety but also the diverse ways in which stories are experienced, understood, and shared.

Session outcomes:

  • Discover the power of storytelling to explore themes of language, identity, and connection.
  • Experience a unique blend of humour and depth through stories shared by an internationally acclaimed storyteller.
  • Gain insight into the art of oral storytelling and how it can transcend barriers of sight and speech.
