What is New Directions?

New Directions in English Language Assessment is the British Council's flagship language testing and assessment conference. It provides insights on trends and approaches in English language assessment at a local, regional and global level. Since 2013, we've celebrated editions across South, Central and East Asia, Europe, Latin America, and Sub-Saharan Africa.

New Directions:

  • provides a platform for sharing cutting-edge developments and best practices in English language assessment in education systems
  • creates a dynamic space where policy makers, educators, academics, and assessment experts from around the world can interact, share ideas and stay ahead of the latest developments in the field
  • supports conversations among regional and global experts to explore assessment solutions that address local needs while aligning with global standards.

With a focus on language assessment, New Directions is designed for education and testing practitioners, policy makers and implementers, and other stakeholders interested in the role of language assessment in education systems. It also offers valuable insights for language testing academics wishing to engage with the latest research and emerging trends in testing and assessment.
