On September 22, the World Branding Forum announced the winners of its 2016 World Branding Awards at a prestigious ceremony at Kensington Palace in London. The British Council was recognised as “Brand of the Year” for the “Education – English language” category.

From a nominated list of 2,600 brands from 35 countries, winners are selected through a three-part process involving valuation by the World Branding Forum, a consumer research project and an on-line vote open to all.

With 70% of the scoring process coming directly from consumer voters, winning brands must deliver satisfaction for their customers.

Richard Rowles, Chairman, World Branding Forum said: Many congratulations to the British Council on winning the Best Brand in Education Award. The award is testament to their staff who work behind the scenes in building and maintaining the brand; clearly they have built strong brand loyalty amongst their customers”.

Eda Colbert, Head of Brand and Marketing at the British Council said: “The awards are a celebration of the achievements of some of the greatest brands around the world. To win, a brand needs to have built a good reputation with its consumers, as the scoring system in place means the general public have a huge say in who wins these awards.

This is truly an impressive achievement and fantastic recognition for our brand and our work in English.”

The prestigious World Branding Awards is organised by the World Branding Forum (WBF), a global non-profit organisation dedicated to advancing brand standards for the good of the brand community as well as consumers. It organises and sponsors a range of educational programmes, including collaborations with leading universities and museums.

On winning the award the British Council received a 24-kt gold plated trophy – This will be displayed in the London (Spring Gardens) office.
