Role overview
About the project
Leading English and Diversity (LEAD) is a three-year project from 1 April 2019 to 31 March 2022 implemented in partnership with the British Council and the Botswana Ministry of Basic Education (MoBE). The overall objective is to develop a combined training programme which develops school leadership and improves the methodology of the teaching of English across primary, junior secondary and senior secondary whilst at the same time increasing the skills of Botswanan personnel (in-service and pre-service) to be high quality trainers.
The programme activities are as follows:
- Skills improvement for school leaders in leading quality in their schools
- Developing the effective teaching skills of teachers of English to facilitate better outcomes for learners in the Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) and the Botswana General Certificate of Secondary Education (BGCSE) examinations
- Supporting the Botswana Ministry of Basic Education personnel and local teacher trainers to continue high quality provision in these two areas to support sustainable improvements in teaching
- Collaborating with the four teacher training colleges to raise standards in teacher education across the education system
About the roles
We are seeking qualified and experienced international consultants (teacher trainers) for the following roles:
1. Primary school English subject teacher trainer:
- Between 25 May and 10 June 2019 (10 days consultancy: five days in Botswana from 3 to 7 June and five days home working)
- Between 15 and 30 July 2019 (10 days’ consultancy: five days in Botswana from 22 to 26 July and five days working from home)
Qualifications and experience required for this role:
- At least five years’ experience as a teacher trainer, preferably in Sub-Saharan Africa
- Resilience and ability to adapt to challenging training environment
- Good ICT skills and experience of delivering webinars
- At least five years’ experience of teaching primary school children
- Primary school teacher training qualification or Young Learner qualification or equivalent
- Experience of using British Council teacher development materials is a plus
- Diploma in Teaching English to Speakers of Other languages (DELTA) is a plus
2. Secondary school English subject teacher trainer:
- Between 25 May and 10 June 2019 (10 days consultancy: five days in Botswana from 3 to 7 June and five days home working)
- Between 15 and 30 July 2019 (10 days’ consultancy: five days in Botswana from 22 to 26 July and five days working from home)
Qualifications and experience required for this role:
- At least five years’ experience as a teacher trainer, preferably in Sub-Saharan Africa
