In February, as the British Council celebrates Mother Language, we invite families to explore a simple and joyful idea: what if our true mother tongue is story itself, shared and enjoyed together, in whatever language we know?
Join UK storyteller Giles Abbott for a fun-filled hour of storytelling designed for children aged 5 to 10 years and their parents. Expect magic, adventure and plenty of silliness as cats chase dogs, rabbits play clever tricks on vultures, and Jack, an English lad gets everything wrong!
Through lively stories and playful language, this session celebrates storytelling as a shared family experience that crosses languages and cultures.
Session outcomes
By the end of the session, parents and children will:
- Celebrate mother language through shared storytelling
- Experience stories as a universal language beyond words
- Build listening, imagination and language skills in children aged 5–10
