ABOUT THE PROJECT

As part of our approach to further strengthening the global alignment of our work in education systems, the British Council has drafted a Statement of Approach for our work in teacher education and development. This statement will be used globally as the British Council Statement of Approach to Teacher Education. The initial work done has drawn on existing British Council documents on standards, as well as work from previous programmes and collective experience to create a statement. We require an experienced academic to review the statement and ensure it is clear, is reflective of good practice as carried out within the British Council, and reflects current research and thinking into teacher development. 

ABOUT THE ROLE

The expectation is that the consultant will dedicate up to a total of two days’ consultancy time within a five day period to review the statement in order to:

  1. ensure it is clear and accurate in its representation of work carried out in British Council programmes
  2. ensure that the cited research supports the statement of approach and provide further sources of research that back up the statement
  3. ensure that it is understandable to a range of audiences, including policy makers, administrators, teacher educators, teachers and materials developers in a variety of global contexts. 

The key output will be a reviewed and marked up copy of the statement which confirms its usability and highlights any areas that need clarification for pedagogical, stylistic or comprehension reasons.

N.B. the role will be desk based without travel and will require consultation with key British Council stakeholders.

Qualifications and experience required

Essential

  • Masters level qualification or above in related area
  • A sound knowledge of and proven expertise in teacher education and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) in a variety of global contexts, including the UK
  • Extensive knowledge of contemporary research on teacher education and CPD 
  • Familiarity with the British Council Teaching for Success approach to teacher education and development.

Desirable

  • Good knowledge of the British Council’s programmes and the contexts within which it works.
