About the project
The Romanian - American Foundation contracted British Council Romania to assess the teaching and learning of mathematics in primary public schools in Romania.
The aims of the research is to:
- provide insights on the needs of teachers and learners of mathematics in primary schools in Romania
- assess the current levels, teaching practices and needs of teachers and learners in grades 0 to 4 (6-11 years old)
- explore the main areas for development of mathematics teaching
- make recommendations for the design of future interventions
The British Council team (a Project Manager and a Project Officer) will coordinate the logistics of the project, while the Academic Research Manager will lead on the research.
About the role
The Academic Manager will closely work with the Project Manager from British Council Romania. The candidate will academically coordinate the research and a team of five locally appointed consultants will conduct the field research in schools. The Academic Manager is expected to:
- develop the whole research methodology
- design/select tools and methods
- be involved in the recruitment and training of five data collection specialists
- lead the research team of five consultants
- coordinate the academic part of the research
The Academic Managerwrite is required to write a full a Baseline Study Report based on the findings of the research that shows how mathematics is being studied and taught in primary schools in Romania including positive aspects, areas of development and suggested interventions to address issues identified, etc.
Qualifications and experience required
The consultant must have sound knowledge of and proven expertise in research of teaching and learning of mathematics and proven ability in writing research reports/baseline studies in the education sector
