Role overview
Project description
The Andhra Pradesh Higher Education Project aims to improve the English language proficiency and employability skills of college students at higher education colleges in Andhra Pradesh. Additionally, the project involves training a cadre of Master Trainers and cohorts of teachers in classroom pedagogy, teaching methodology and communicative language teaching methods using a cascade model so that institutional training capacity can be built and learners have ongoing access to high quality teaching and learning.
The key objectives of the project are that:
- learners will improve their workplace English, employability and soft skills through an integrated training solution (face-to-face and online) and thereby have access to increased opportunities for further education and employment
- English teachers will increase their English proficiency and be able to employ teaching methodologies which facilitate more communicative language learning outcomes
- a suitable cadre of Master Trainers will be developed, who will support the on-going training and professional development of English teachers in colleges on a sustainable basis.
Role description
We are seeking three Materials Writers to develop face-to-face content and materials to support the project to agreed standards and within budget, and develop quality review systems for pre-, in- and post-use of the materials. Materials will be designed to complement the Learn English Select (LE Select) online course (50 hours of input) with a focus on employability skills (building confidence, writing a job application/CV, preparing for an interview, etc.). In addition to face-to-face lessons, the materials are likely to play a significant role in English Clubs, which will be informal, learner-driven and provide additional engagement opportunity after college for further practice.
Furthermore, the materials will need to be culturally aligned to the target audience while at the same time exposing the learners to international varieties of English.
The Materials Writers will be working with a Team Leader and members of the British Council team. Content will need to meet academic quality standards and guidelines agreed by the team.
Main duties:
- contribute to discussions on the materials outline during the briefing workshop (remote)
- produce materials (A1, A2 and B1 levels) for face-to-face content (100 hours per level) within the established time frame
- ensure materials positively demonstrate British Council expertise in English, safeguarding equality, diversity and inclusion and environmental policies and standards
- work closely with the team to ensure materials design meets LE Select Online learning objectives and outcomes
- attend regular progress review meetings face-to-face or by telephone
- review and revise materials in line with feedback received from peers and the Team Leader
- develop a quality assurance framework for pre-, in- and post-use analysis of the materials.
We estimate the equivalent of two to two and a half months' full time work will be required for completion between April and July 2017. All materials are to be completed to the required standard by the end of July.
