Role overview

About the project

We are seeking an experienced ELT teacher-trainer to design and deliver two four-day train-the-trainer workshops in Cuba with 20 university English teachers in each. The workshops are expected to take place over a two-week period during the second half of November 2017 (subject to final agreement of the Cuban Ministry of Higher Education) and will:

  • familiarise a core group of 40 master trainers (with minimum C1 English) with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) scales and skills at all levels
  • provide freely available examples of communicative activities to supplement the current Cuban A2 level university English course ‘At Your Pace’ and future B1 level course 'Face to Face’ (PDF examples attached, further chapters available upon request). British Council web-based material can be used for this in addition to other freely available activities, but keep in mind that internet connectivity in Cuba is rather patchy and hard copies will need to be used for the training
  • provide an overview of the principles of communicative teaching methodology, with practical demonstrations of how to make most effective use of the supplementary materials
  • equip the master trainers to deliver the training to university English teachers around Cuba.

The intended outcome is to familiarise English teachers with the CEFR levels and the use of communicative methodology and activities to supplement the existing university English courses. This will help Cuban university English teachers better prepare their students to meet CEFR requirements at A2 and B1+ levels.

About the role

The experienced ELT teacher-trainer will design and deliver the two four-day train-the-trainer workshops in Cuba as described above.

We will pay a daily fee for eight days of delivery, five days of preparation, and two days of travel. Economy class return flights UK-Cuba, accommodation and daily subsistence allowance will also be paid.
