Role overview
About the project
English Connects is our programme that provides online teacher professional development and supports teachers and teacher educators of English across India with access to quality online professional development opportunities, resources and communities of practice through our teacher community.
We do this through three interlinked strands:
- Communities: using social media platforms and supported activities, we build, develop and deepen our existing online community of practice.
- Resources: we create free digital resources for teachers and teacher educators such as the Technology for Teachers series and Get talking. Resources aim to support English language competency and develop teachers’ pedagogy and professional practice.
- Partnerships: enhancing and building on our existing partnerships with teacher associations and other educational organisations, we widen our network and reach practitioners beyond our English Programmes projects.

About the role
We require up to three academic consultants to work together to create teacher support material for a series of videos. Learn English with friends is a series of 30 short, animated videos covering a range of general English topics like colours, jobs and animals on British Council YouTube channel. Students learn topical vocabulary and practise it instantly using simple dialogues and phrases. This helps them develop their competence in conversational English.
We would like to create material that teachers can use in the classroom (online and in-person) and for remote teaching.
The academic consultants may respond together or individually and will be supported by a British Council staff or Freelance Consultant.
Each academic consultant is expected to:
- collaborate with the British Council team and other consultants to conceptualise the teacher support material
- contribute to a plan for the creation of the teacher support material. This includes, for example, an agreed format and structure.
- peer-review content developed by the other consultants on the project
- attend regular meetings to assess progress and ensure the project is on track
- contribute to a dissemination plan (for example, a webinar) to share the resources with teachers and help them use the support material effectively
- co-deliver the webinar/dissemination event (such as a recorded video) which will be uploaded to the British Council YouTube channel to support teachers in using the materials.
Expected number of days: Six (over the three-month period)
