As schools begin a new academic term, Connecting Classrooms, funded by the British Council and the Department for International Development (DFID), are launching a new round of partnership funding through the global education programme.
Connecting Classrooms is designed to help young people learn about global issues and become responsible global citizens, as well as giving them the skills they need for work in a global economy.
Launched on 12 November, Connecting Classrooms has a fresh round of funding for partnerships between schools in the UK and schools in countries including India, China, Argentina and many more. View the full list of eligible countries.
We’re offering travel grants of £1,500 per school, to facilitate visits to and from your partner school to develop your partnership and work together. The aim of the visits is to help schools work together on teaching global citizenship, sharing education practice and building an equitable and sustainable partnership.
Schools can use our online collaboration tools including project spaces and forums on British Council Schools Online to develop their partnership virtually. They’ll also get access to our easy-to-follow framework to help you build and further your partnership relevant to your curriculum area. This can save time and money through free resources for partnership projects. There will also be advice and support throughout the grant activity.
The deadline for applications is 11 February 2013 so schools can start thinking about applying by reading our guidance documents. If you have any questions you can contact us at schools@britishcouncil.org
Finding the right partnership is a key step in developing a school’s international dimension. Don’t have a partnership yet? Find a partner with British Council Schools Online, which enable teachers from around the world to make contact, establish collaborative links and enrich their schools’ international work.
Connecting Classrooms also offers online and face to face training courses through our Professional Development strand. As the school’s international dimension expands, they could be eligible for an Award or Accreditation through the International School Award.
Connecting Classrooms gives pupils a chance to discover a wider world, opening their minds to different societies, developing trust and understanding between cultures. Discover how you can get involved by visiting the Connecting Classrooms website.
