Attend a Student Conference

Conferences for groups of secondary students from schools across England to meet with their counterparts from a range of countries are regularly organised by the British Council.

These conferences bring young people together to look at issues of common interest and work through a range of expert-facilitated workshops over the period of a few days either in a residential venue in England or overseas.

Keep checking our News page for information on upcoming conferences for students.

Conferences held recently:

Anglo-French student conference

This is an annual event, organised jointly by British Council on behalf of DfES and the French Ministry of Education (MENESR).  It brings together some 70 students from across France and England to think about, discuss and work on ideas related to a particular theme. In February 2006, this was held in Paris on the theme of l’ésprit d’initiative and le goût d’entreprendre (the sprit of initiative and entrepreneurship). Read more.

East-West student conference

In February 2006, 30 pupils aged 14-17 from schools in England, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland took part in a residential programme of activity in Dublin organised by the British Council and its Irish partner organisation, Léargas. The aim was to explore the concepts of citizenship and identity in a UK-Ireland, European, and global context.

The programme enabled the youngsters to engage with each other in a series of lively group sessions and interactive workshops, as well as during the busy social programme. The 3-day seminar coincided with a visit to Dublin by the Chair of the British Council, Rt. Hon. Neil Kinnock. Lord Kinnock chaired an animated series of moving debates with the youngsters on issues ranging from, "You cannot have more than one nationality", to, "Being a European citizen is important to me".
