Anglo-Spanish Student Fellowships
Linking partner schools in England and Spain

If you are a student in the Sixth Form (Year 12 or 13) of school or college in England and are interested in spending two weeks studying in a Spanish school taking part in lessons and working on an individual research project, we’d like to hear from you.

Who can apply?

16-18 year old students at sixth form or college in England
Participants must be in school year 12 or 13 at the time of their visit to Spain

Applicants need to have a good level of Spanish in order to communicate with teachers and peers, to observe lessons and to make use of some research materials in Spanish

Please note that it is rarely possible to award more than two Fellowships to any one sponsoring school in England in any one year

Where can I go?
Successful applicants can carry out their project in a Spanish school with which their home school already has a link. Please ensure the Spanish link school has agreed to your proposed visit before you make an application to us.

When can I go?
The timings of the individual study visits are flexible, but must take place when the Spanish host school is in full session.

How do I apply?
Download and read the guidelines (MS Word 60KB) and then fill out the application form (MS Word 65KB) The deadline for applications for autumn term 2008 visits was 23 May 2008 The next application deadline will be on 10 October 2008, for visits to take place during February half-term 2009.

The placements and research projects are intended to be individual experiences and original pieces of work, therefore students from the same school in England should not submit joint applications. Should students from the same school be awarded a Fellowship to visit the same Spanish partner school, they would be expected to visit at different times and work on entirely different projects.

What are the project guidelines?
The topics of the research projects are of the student's own choice and should tie in with their A-level studies. Interested students should consult with their teachers and host schools about project themes. Details of the project proposal need to be submitted as part of the application form.

Examples of research projects undertaken previously include:

To what point do young Spanish people feel European?
Opinions on the protection of the environment in the UK and Spain
A study into the languages taught in Spanish primary and secondary schools
Approaches to teaching history in Spain and the UK
A comparison between how PSHE is taught in Spain and the UK

How much funding is available?
A grant is available towards travel, insurance and accommodation costs, with a contribution to subsistence and agreed costs for materials.
