Partnerships with Russia
Linking the UK and Russia

As a consequence of recent challenges concerning the British Council's operations in Russia, we have regretfully taken the decision to temporarily suspend our schools’ programmes until June 2008.

The British Council remains committed to working in Russia and continues to operate from our Moscow office. However, we are not currently in a position to conduct any activity beyond Moscow. We are prepared to take these measures at this time to help protect our current commitments and enable us to continue to work in Russia in the future.

We will reassess the situation and the subsequent delivery of the schools’ programme in June.

If you have any questions about this, please contact Ruth Cocks: 0207 389 4930

Russian Immersion Course
The Russian immersion course gives English students a chance to use their language skills in an authentic environment, and gain an insight into Russian culture. It consists of language lessons on site in the mornings, and cultural activities in the afternoons.

The 2007 Russian immersion course will take place from 19 October to 4 November 2007 (depending on flight schedules) and is based in Sochi or Yaroslavl. learning-school-partnerships-joint-curriculum-projects-guidelines-07-14.doc

Anglo-Russian Teacher Fellowships

If you are a teacher in England and interested in spending one to two weeks in a Russian school undertaking professional research projects or developing curriculum materials, then an Anglo-Russian Teacher Fellowship is for you.

Fully qualified language teachers and teachers of other subjects from primary and secondary schools, both maintained and independent, are welcome to apply. Applications from teachers in Sixth Form colleges or in colleges of Further Education will also be considered.

A grant of up to £1000 can be awarded towards travel costs, accommodation, subsistence, and a contribution towards supply is available. Please note that as this is a professional visit it is not possible for teachers to be accompanied by family members, friends or partners during the visit

The research project must be linked to an area of professional interest and be of benefit to the school’s development plan. Examples of research projects previously undertaken include: Linguistic Interaction in French Schools; The use of ICT across the curriculum; A Comparative Study of Boys’ Underachievement in Two Capital Cities and the Factors influencing their Attainment.
