Anglo-German School Curriculum Projects
Linking partner schools in England and Germany

If your school is interested in applying for funding to undertake a curriculum project with your German partner school we would like to hear from you. This page gives you advice on who can apply, project guidelines, the availability of funding and how to apply.

Who can apply?
We are only able to accept applications from primary / secondary state schools and sixth form colleges in England which have an established partnership with a school in Germany. The collaboration between these schools must be agreed before submitting an application.

Schools can apply jointly with a neighbouring school if the nature of the project lends itself to inter-school co-operation.

How much funding is available?
Funding for projects is unlikely to be greater that £5000. Please note that the cost of teacher release, up to 25% of the overall project cost, will be considered if the teacher release time is not used just to accompany students but also in the preparation and follow-up stages of the project.

How do I apply?
Download the guidelines (MS Word 84KB) and an application form (MS Word 100KB)

When should I apply?
If you are interested in visiting Germany in the autumn term 2008, the next deadline for receipt of applications is 23 May 2008. The following application deadline will then be on 10 October 2008. Please note that all visits have to take place before 31 March 2009.

What are the project guidelines?

Projects should be innovative, creative and involve joint activities with the German school such as a joint drama course for students, a joint sports leadership programme or a joint music course. Projects should allow for both language and curriculum activity.

The following downloads give examples of successful projects that have already been undertaken through this scheme: case studies 1,(PDF 25KB) case studies 2(PDF 500KB), list of all projects 03-04(PDF 23KB) .

Projects must involve a stay in Germany for a minimum of 10 students. Funding may not be used for German partners to return to the UK. However, proposals which include a "residential period" accommodating both British and German students during the stay in Germany will be considered if relevant to the planned project activities.
Projects should have a German language element but participation need not be limited to pupils currently studying German.
Projects should aim to have a wide impact within the school and local community.
Where possible, projects should show an element of partnership sustainability.
Proposals should show clearly how pupils of both English and German institutions will benefit from the project.
