Hummersknott School and Language College, Darlington is a secondary school with 1200 pupils.

School No. 639 & Specialist Language College, St Petersburg is a secondary school with 800 pupils

When did the partnership start?  How was the partner school located?

The partnership started in 2002 following an internet search and a personal meeting

Case Study of a particular activity or all joint activities to date

2005 - 2006 has seen us participate in a Joint Curriculum Project in Science called ‘The Air We All Breathe’

Pupils involved include: Year 7, 8, 9, 10 & SEN pupils

The most important learning experiences:

  • Breaking down stereotypes
  • Working as a team
  • Learning about world citizenship
  • Carrying out independent scientific research

The students and staff exchange is part of the project. It has been funded by the British Council plus parents’ fundraising activities

Staff CPD is a further benefit – an international experience for the Head Teacher and for staff
