Case Study of a particular activity or all joint activities to date

Initially as part of a primary school consortium we hosted a Japanese teacher from the local secondary school for just one day. This led to only our school developing the idea of linking with Japan with email links to a Japanese school set up through Japan 21*. Later on a webcam link was set up with the Japanese school, so the Japanese children and teachers visiting our school as part of the secondary school link plus our own teachers and pupils could communicate with Komaki Primary in Japan. We chose a day to share similarities and differences in culture. Aspects of this day included a divali play, teaching origami, calligraphy, recorders and lessons in general. This day fired everyone’s imagination and since then we have had Japanese language taught, and the culture taught throughout KS2 by volunteers (organised by Japan 21). Email links are continuing and we have been successful in securing funding from the British Council to take 6 children to Komaki Primary in 2007. This partnership is obviously in its infancy although in 5 months we have achieved a great deal. We are already gaining vast knowledge of cultural similarities and differences and our visit will develop these aspects as well as will our website.
