Update on British Council operations in Bahrain
17 March 2011
In light of the current situation in Bahrain, our office in Manama is currently closed.
As the academic term in Bahrain is coming to an end, our staff working as English teachers have started their holidays this week. Some are returning to the UK and others travelling to different destinations. We have been helping to arrange flights and to move their holidays forward where necessary.
The safety of our staff and customers is our main priority, so we will continue to monitor the situation closely.
The British Council has been working in Bahrain since 1959, building links with the UK through English, education and the arts. Last year we taught English to 5,500 learners and administered 8000 exams. We also link schools in Bahrain with the UK through our Connecting Classrooms programme, and organise cultural events including a recent tour of work by UK and Middle-Eastern photographers.
