British Council 2012 Director comments on the power of the Games
26 July 2012
Paul Docherty, the British Council's 2012 Director, comments on the power of the London 2012 Games:
“The world’s here and the world’s watching, so the London 2012 Games are an unprecedented opportunity for the UK to build new relationships with people from all over the world. We shouldn’t just be thinking about the benefits in terms of people coming here and spending money while the Games are on, important as that is. Think of the billions around the world who are watching on their TVs – it’s an opportunity to show all of them why the UK is a place they should be involved with. It’s about far more than the sport – it’s about the education and cultural work that’s going on. It’s about the way countries and cultures are coming together, with the UK as the catalyst. Nothing’s going to get in the way of that, even if it rains.”
