British Council receives DfE funding to continue Language Assistants programme

25 November 2010

Martin Davidson, British Council Chief Executive, said:

“I am pleased to confirm that we are receiving funding from the Department for Education to continue the Language Assistants programme, and recruitment for next year’s scheme is now open. The deadline for applications in England and Wales is 14 January.

“For more than a century, the Language Assistants programme has benefited thousands of language students both from the UK and overseas. For many language students at UK universities, it is a valuable way for them to immerse themselves in another language and culture as a compulsory part of their degrees.

For thousands more students overseas, the Language Assistants are an important contact with the English language and British culture – and they add greatly to Britain’s reputation abroad.  And our schools benefit from the Foreign Language Assistants we receive in exchange.”
