This MFL project with a French school was aimed to develop the European Dimension and to bolster links for an exchange trip.
Throughout the project pupils had to be fairly competent with regards to ICT. Their initial introductions to each other were achieved by using power point slides to present themselves and offer an insight to their lives. This was very helpful in establishing that there would be real people on the other end of the e-mails and giving a quick start to the project.
During the project pupils sent each other small written pieces such as the suggested idea of describing that you are lost in a city and what you can see or of a nightmare they had had. This certainly got the children’s imaginations going and lots of scary images were exchanged that accompanied their work, which they sent to each other via the internet. We found e-mail to be the fastest way for the children to give and receive feedback from their partners which in turn helped to keep them motivated and interested in the project.
All of the pupils who took part are proud of their achievements and their self-confidence is lovely to see. Speaking for myself I can safely say my use of ICT in my classroom has improved and the knowledge that I can actually do most things with a computer when shown how keeps me attempting to introduce new ideas. The greatest benefit from taking part in the project was taking our subject outside the classroom and into real life. There is also the possibility of a project with a school in Venice involving the Art department focusing on Art and citizenship
“Evidence that the project has impacted student view of the language as evidenced through increased uptake.” “A good project which has been driven by the motivation of two teachers to start with but now is impacting the wider school.”
