PROJECT OUTLINE

A ‘spring’ based cross curricular project developing different ways in which the Nursery curriculum can be enriched through creating real contexts for the children’s work. An end product has been the joint development, with a Maltese school, of a Personal and Social Development programme for very young children using the ‘Buzz Bee’ character which both sets of pupils can relate to.

USE OF ICT WITHIN THE PROJECT

The children use email, presentation software, digital and video cameras, (with support). Through the use of art, 3D pictures using home made play dough will give partners electronic instructions over the internet.  Staff will share ideas focused on the Personal development needs of this age group and structure a series of lessons to be used in both schools. Practicing second language skills has involved the use of digital video to great effect. The large files were exchanged through www.yousendit.com

RESULTS AND BENEFITS

The pupils understanding that there are shared personal values which extend to others in Europe and are universal. That children as individuals and as classes have understood the values of ‘Buzz Bee’ and will put them into practice in both schools and communities. The pupils gained skills in applying ICT in a creative and motivating way. The staff benefited from new ideas and shared development of one aspect of the Nursery curriculum. (PSD) Well motivated pupils engaged with the character in both schools and have broadened their studies.
