eTwinning ambassadors

Our eTwinning ambassadors are a community of teachers and school leaders who would like to share with you their eTwinning experiences. They’ve all been involved in a range of successful projects, so if you’ve got a question about how to get started or how to develop your own eTwinning project, then why not ask an ambassador?

How can I contact an eTwinning ambassador?
The best way to contact our ambassadors is through the eTwinning staff team.  You can contact the team by email or by phone (028 9024 8220).  The team can then put you in touch with the ambassador of your choice.

I’m a head teacher of a primary school on the Orkney Isles. I have been involved in eTwinning since its inception – using it initally as a means to provide a purpose and audience for language development. This year, in my school, we have links with Greece, Bulgaria, England, Finland, Scotland, Poland, France and Iceland.

I am about to be involved in the development of a project involving the island dimension in preparation for the 2011 Island Games which will be held on the Isle of Wight.

I am the Headteacher of a medium sized primary and nursery school in Southend on Sea in sunny Essex. My school is actively developing the International Dimension of the curriculum and has formed links with schools in a variety of ways. Currently we have links with China, India, France and Norway. The latter two links have been formed and enhanced through the use of eTwinning. Most of our linking work is via email or through the “Twinspace”.

I am the Headteacher at Lent Rise Combined School, a large primary school near to Slough, Berkshire. Our school has been actively involved in eTwinning since the beginning, and now every class is eTwinned with another country. We are a good practice case study for Wider Community Cohesion for the Department for Children Schools and Families, and therefore can talk with some conviction on how Internationalism can support standards.

Area: Nationwide.

I work at a primary pupil referral unit, with a maximum of 6 pupils on any one day. At first we felt a bit dubious that we could sustain a link with a partner school, but we managed so well last year that we are doing another project with the same school this year, and linking with two more partners on the same project, one of whom I found during my visit to the Estonia PDW. Also, out of that workshop came another link with an Estonian teacher, and we are going to work on a separate project with the youngest children.

Support: By email, Ning forum or workshops.
Area: Within a 20 mile radius of Amersham, Bucks.

I am a French teacher in a Secondary School in Oldham. Our school is what would be considered very mixed in ability and backgrounds of the pupils. However, most pupils responded really well to some actual "real" French teenagers and loved taking part in our project. We are linked to a school in the South of France and both sides have benefited enormously.

We have just won runners up at the National Awards, which is pleasing as it was our first attempt.

Support: Help in setting up exchanges and general project support by e-mail or in person at workshops.
Area: Manchester and Greater Manchester.

I retrained for Primary in 2004 after ten years in Secondary MFL. I share a whole KS2 class with the Headteacher in a tiny Primary school. We introduced French in 2004 and we also have 'taster' half-term units in the summer, so far in German and Spanish. We have worked with two French schools in the conventional sense - exchanging materials via 'snail mail'. eTwinning is probably going to be the way forward for us though - it is much more immediate.

I work in a cross-phase 5-18 special school setting. For the last ten years I have been responsible for teaching ICT (amongst other subjects) discretely and across the curriculum. Working in an environment which predominantly caters for chronically ill children has made me very aware of the disruption caused by long periods of hospitalisation and the beneficial and mitigating impact of ICT in helping to reduce educational discontinuity and social isolation. I would be most interested in hearing from colleagues working in similar situations, particularly those overseas, who use ICT to extend and enrich the curriculum.

Support: I am interested in developing links with colleagues in other hospital schools wherever they may be located and would be interested in helping to support and use any technology that motivates, inspires and is relevant to the needs of the young people using it. E.g. Web 2 applications, Podcasts, Flashmeeting, Making the News etc.

I am the Deputy Head of a large secondary Special School in Hertfordhire and a fervent advocate of the benefits of ICT in helping teachers teach and pupils learn. The opportunities that European Links offer pupils in term of real-life learning through ICT are amazing. My School has been involved in a number of successful European and International Projects and were awarded the ‘eTwinning’ Quality Mark as well as being runners up in this year’s Annual eTwinning Awards.  I am currently one of 25 teachers across the UK appointed by the British Council as ‘Learning Together Ambassadors’ to promote eTwinning and Comenius Projects.

My background is Science/Chemistry but my present educational focus is ICT and e-learning. I am currently teaching in a small-ish primary school just outside York where our two eTwinning projects are well under way! As MFL coordinator for our cluster of schools, I have promoted eTwinning as a way for children to learn new languages and all about new cultures (as well as learning new things about their own!). As of April 2008, I will be taking on a new role as Primary Consultant in English for North Yorkshire LA. In this role, I hope to encourage schools to use eTwinning as a way to make learning real and fun and as a tool for developing children's communication skills through the variety of methods technology affords us. eTwinning is an excellent way to show children how language and literature grow out of the cultures we live in - if anyone needs a hand with setting up projects, etc, then let me know!

Support: Happy to give any support to anyone re ideas for projects, a case study of our successful projects.

Although I do use the standard 'Word' applications, the majority of plans incorporate many social media tools available on the Internet to connect, communicate, celebrate our children's work and most of all to allow them to be creative.  My main tools are Audacity, voki, onetruemedia, voicethread, googlemaps, twitter. blogs and wikis to name a few.

I am a Primary school teacher working as an Advisory Teacher for ICT in North Tyneside. I have supported schools using ICT across the curriculum for many years. I'm finding etwinning gives schools a fantastic, real-life reason for using all those exciting multimedia tools that used to seem so daunting! Video, animations, sound recordings, simple emails...they all come to life as part of an etwinning project, where children and teachers have a genuine audience, and get responses and feedback too.

Support: Online support on NING Forum. Can provide workshops and school visits.
Area: North Tyneside, NE England, Scottish Borders.

Although currently Deputy Director in Stockton City Learning Centre (in the North East of England), my background is in teaching Maths at Secondary level, but I do now work right across the curriculum helping teachers embed the use of innovative technology into the curriculum. Area: With the online tools I have available, I could support anyone anywhere!
