Why would you recommend registering with eTwinning?

Registering opens up a whole new world of contacts with realms of experiences to share and support to give.It also allows one to show case work done by the students across Europe.

What benefits has running an international link through ICT brought to your school?

It has allowed students who can not afford to experience the international dimension first hand to do so over the web. It has opened the global dimension to the whole school nit just the more affluent section who could travel with their parents or on a school organised visit.

Specialist areas:

My expertise is not really on line work but we have used it for ISA applications but have a large input into implementation of Curriculum for Excellence across a secondary school and advising departments on the inclusion of the international dimension or facilitating contact with subject specialists who have already done so.  Leading idea generating sessions also a strength both in Scottish schools and internationally. My strengths lie in the Comenius fields as this is where I have spent most of international ‘career’.

Iclal Lawrence

Assistant Head

Iclal Lawrence I am an assistant head of a primary school located in East London with over 450 pupils. Over the last four years, we have won many awards and became a model for other primary schools to use etwinning creatively in their existing curriculum.  I have run many events and workshops for Newham and other neighbouring boroughs and been invited to many events as a speaker. I would be willing to help schools to promote etwinning  and offer practical advice through  case studies.

Why would you recommend registering with eTwinning?

Since introducing eTwinning into the curriculum, lessons have become more relevant and inspirational for pupils. Pupils strive to reach high standards of achievement, knowing that their finished work has an audience; think creatively to produce well presented information that will interest others and enhance their communication and language skills through interacting with pupils in another European country.

What benefits has running an international link through ICT brought to your school?

As a consequence of eTwinning, I have made a meaningful contribution to the development of Curriculum for Excellence and International Education within my school by: raising teacher awareness of eTwinning as a means of delivering all or part of the curriculum; sharing good practice in cross-curricular working; motivating colleagues to become involved in eTwinning and supporting those who do eTwinning has made a contribution towards my school achieving ISA.

Specialist areas:

“Vokis” – using Audacity to record voice messages.  My projects also involve the use of Wikis, digital video, photo montages and Flashmeeting.

When our Comenius project finished we wanted to continue to develop our links with other Eco Schools in Europe.  eTwinning provided the necessary tools for us to do this.  We quickly found Eco School partners in Portugal and Italy and we began a project called Eco Food we created a blog and posted regular items on it.

eTwinning is an excellent resource to bring Europe into your classroom and create real-life experiences to pupils.  Our pupils love links with other schools, you can make your projects as big or small as you like.

We envisage each class in our school carrying out an eTwinning project and we will build this into our curriculum.  eTwinning is extremely flexible and I would certainly recommend any teacher giving it a try!

Why would you recommend registering with eTwinning?

eTwinning gives schools a fantastic, real-life reason for using all those exciting multimedia tools that used to seem so daunting! Video, animations, sound recordings, simple emails, collaborative Web 2.0 applications...they all come to life as part of an etwinning project, where children and teachers have a genuine audience, and get responses and feedback too.

What benefits has running an international link through ICT brought to your school?

My first eTwinning project ,supporting one of our local schools and a school in Spain, won the 2008 European prize for eTwinnning for their age group! The project also won an award from the UK government (MadeITHappen competition). The project was subsequently highlighted by OFSTED in the school’s inspection. The school continues to develop etwinning partnerships which contribute towards an International School Award.

Specialist areas:

I have supported schools using ICT across the curriculum for many years. I use a wide variety of ICT tools. I have a particular interests in creativity, art and also esafety. (I am a leader for esafety in education in North Tyneside, a CEOP esafety ambassador and a member of the CEOP Education Advisory Board).
